On Parenting

February 5, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Wow!!!

Was that Wednesday?  I had my share of ups and downs yesterday.

I had moments when everything went well and others where they just didn’t.

But that’s how life is, right?!

Each and every day…in every season of our lives we are faced with new challenges.  We have to make new decisions.  We have to decide to either commit or not to commit to a task, function, or a role.

I find that these are the times when I begin to reevaluate my priorities.  I look at my progress.  Am I consistent in what I do?  Am I holding myself accountable or do I have someone in my life that can do it for me when I can’t?

Yet, parenting is one of those things where you never know what trials or tests we are going to face.  Parenting tests our ability and our inabilities. It is one of the many roles in life that test or check our character.  Parenting proves if we are who we say we are…who we hope to be…or who we said we would never be…

It is in this, that we have to stand strong in the promises of God…cast all of our cares upon Him…for He cares for us…

When I need wisdom…I ask…He supplies…

Parenting causes me to say “Lord, help me to push when I need to push, but not pass the limit that you have set…that is needed…Help me to hold on when I should and to let go when I need to…Help me Lord to raise them right…pleasing in Your sight. For you gave them to me…Let me stand up for them and with them…when I should against their will to do wrong…to quit, to not try…help me to teach them resilience and accountability.  Help me to show them the way that you have shown me…”

This is my hearts prayer…for me…for my husband…for my children…my grandchildren…

I even pray this for you…that you would be encouraged and strengthened to influence and assist a young person in their growth and maturity.  When you feel like giving up, that God would equip you with the strength to continue to go on and to see the task all the way through…

That was Wednesday…over that hump…

Now, this is Thursday…

The Choices That We Make

January 27, 2015 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

Over the course of our life times we are faced with choices.

Our life experiences shape the way that we view the world and in a way, they predetermine the choices that we make…unless something or someone intervenes to help reshape the way that we view the world.

In this manner, our relationships become as important, if not more important than the experiences that we’ve had.

Last night, I sat and had a conversation with my husband about a few things.   I realized, once again, that it is important to get wise counsel before making a choice, if I’m not sure what to do.  (And in many cases, even when I’m sure what to do)

You see, just because we view the world in a specific way doesn’t mean that it’s the way that the world should be viewed.  Just because we want to handle a situation a certain way, doesn’t mean that we should…

Sometimes…most of the times…no, all of the times…it is important for us to thoroughly consider the choices that we make.  How will our choices affect other people?  How will they affect us?

We have to take our time to make the proper, correct, right choice…the one that represents us…

I am thankful for my husband.  I am thankful for his wisdom.  I am thankful for our unity.

It is my hope that I would always be able to consider the various options before me and the effects of each choice that I make, wisely.

Have you ever realized that your choices should be thoroughly considered and in considering them, you changed your mind?  If so, what or who made you see this?  What would the outcome have been like if you made the other choice?  Please share…

Stages and Ages

September 2, 2013 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

The natural human tendency is to rebel. It is to go against a controlling dominant force in life and do the opposite of what is demanded, stated, or expected. It take a willingness to be obedient before a person actually walks in obedience. This is the same for both adults and children.

If you tell a child to sit and they are at a stage in life where challenging authority is important to setting boundaries, they stand.

If you have a child, you have experienced this. I know I have. I’ve been through this before and I’m going through this now. My children normally behave without a problem until they hit a new development stage in their lives. This is the point where we have to let then grow and to understand that they are pushing against the rules of our house and against us as a part of their development. With this in mind, they must still understand boundaries and limits, while being able to experience the freedom of choice and the consequences to actions.

Today I pray for wisdom as my children move from one stage to another. I pray that they would trust The Lord as they develop and have open hearts and that they are guided by wisdom.
In Jesus’ Name
Amen…
