Summer Fun

June 19, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

It summertime!!!

Yay!!!!

Do you know what that means?!

It means that my family and I get to do great things everyday…together. Now although my husband will be able to do things with us, the summer fun will mostly consist of my kids and I hanging out.

We love going to the pool, running through the sprinkler, and playing outside together. Although these are things that we can do all year long together, the best part is that no one has to be worry about homework, waking up for school, or even what day of the week it is. We just spend days of carefree hours together doing what we love.

I am so excited, that I feel like I am going to burst with joy.

Last night I said that I was excited that the summer was finally here. My younger son asked me if it was because we get to spend so much time together…YES!!! That is my reason (plus the fact that we don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn or before it).

Today, we slept in. We had a fun carefree breakfast, sat on the couch and watched a movie. We had a video game challenge, where my older son came out as the ultimate winner. We had a great lunch and now we are getting ready to have some of that good old outside fun.

Some of the things that I am looking forward to are going to the park with my kids and taking trips to explore. We also like to take trips to our local library, book store, and used book stores. We’ll probably do some art and craft activities that have to be done outside, since they are so messy. This will give me a chance to try some of those projects that I have on my Pinterest board for doing crafts with my kids.

I am looking forward to our baking sessions together. This is something that we do on breaks anyway, but during the summer, baking and coming up with new things is fun.

One of our summer projects will be to study the Bible together. I am really excited about this.

You know being a mom, is one of the best gifts that God could have ever given me. I get to share my life with these four great kids. I pour in to them and they make my life such an adventurous pleasure.

My heart is filled with so much joy right now.

I don’t know about you, but I just can’t get enough of my babies…although one of them would say that he isn’t a baby anymore…he’s still my baby.

I hope you plan on having a great summer like I do.

Ok…enough chat, I’ve got to run…literally… 🙂

Stages and Ages

September 2, 2013 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

The natural human tendency is to rebel. It is to go against a controlling dominant force in life and do the opposite of what is demanded, stated, or expected. It take a willingness to be obedient before a person actually walks in obedience. This is the same for both adults and children.

If you tell a child to sit and they are at a stage in life where challenging authority is important to setting boundaries, they stand.

If you have a child, you have experienced this. I know I have. I’ve been through this before and I’m going through this now. My children normally behave without a problem until they hit a new development stage in their lives. This is the point where we have to let then grow and to understand that they are pushing against the rules of our house and against us as a part of their development. With this in mind, they must still understand boundaries and limits, while being able to experience the freedom of choice and the consequences to actions.

Today I pray for wisdom as my children move from one stage to another. I pray that they would trust The Lord as they develop and have open hearts and that they are guided by wisdom.
In Jesus’ Name
Amen…

First Day of School…for moms

August 26, 2013 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

Today, I did what I have always done as a mother with children in school. Yet, it seemed so different. It should seem different though. I am in a new state, with four children, on a new routine, and my boys going to new schools.

I’ve been up since 6:45am. That isn’t anything new because I’ve been up at that time before with my kids going to school and with my new baby. However, the thing that got me, was how long this day has been.

After taking my boys to school, I had to feed my baby and grab a bite to eat. Then we went to a doctor’s appointment. While there, they did another metabolic screening in my daughter, which made her very cranky. She still hasn’t recovered from that process. The gentleman actually squeezed her heel for about 20 minutes. He tried to assure me that he was not squeezing her heel. He was convinced, or at least seemed to be and wanted me to be as well, that she was only crying because she didn’t like him holding her foot. Honestly, I was frustrated because my baby was screaming and crying for so long. I asked him to stop so that I could sooth her a bit. He did and so did I.

After spending an hour at each of my kids schools this morning, I had to do the same thing this afternoon in order to pick them up. I’m not too happy about that. Why? Well, it’s because that is a total of 4 hours that I’m not sure is completely necessary.

I hope my boys enjoyed their day. The first day if school is always exciting. It is full of adventure. I remember feeling happy, excited, nervous, and scared all at the same time. They probably experienced the same feelings today. First grade and middle school have to be two of the most exciting times in a kids school career. I can’t wait to hear about their experiences.

For me the first day of school was draining. I didn’t have to spend time in any classes or anything, but I had to do plenty of work.

Other Children’s Birthday Parties

April 22, 2013 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

There is a moment as a mom when you find yourself doing some activity and you realize that you don’t really want to do it, but that you are going to for your kids. This weekend, I had one of those moments. My kids were invited to a birthday party and I had already told them that I would take them, so we were going…

Now, since I have been a mom, I have to gone to birthday parties of children that are not mine, but this one was different. This was the first time that I was going to a party, in which I didn’t quite know the family of the child too well. We know the child and her siblings. Her mother have talked briefly on a number of occasions, but no serious bonds have been built. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect, besides good cupcakes.

I arrived with X-man, Ice-man, and Precious. Little did I know that I would find a house full of little girls and any boys that arrived were sent outside on the trampoline. That would have been fine if I expected it, but one of my boys received an invitation to the party and did not exactly fit into the “Hello Kitty” atmosphere.

Precious had tons of fun and so did my boys, but I in the other hand found it hard to connect with some of the other parents. I’m not sure if it was because I had a rough morning or because it was just that type of atmosphere. Well, what I mean is that there really was a feeling of being separated with the boys having to go outside and choose five pieces of the candy that fell out of the piñata. I had to make the best out of what I was given. Most of the parents just sat and watched their kids quietly. It wasn’t until the end when we were leaving that people began to mingle.

One great thing, that I must say is that the mom threw a great party for her daughter. All of the girls had a blast. Precious got to experience her first “girly” party. She hit the piñata with much force and she left with a crown and some wings.

Sometimes we don’t know what to expect and we may not want to go through the experience, but the truth is that mothers will do anything for their children…well, almost…and going to a birthday party when we could be doing something else is one of those things.

(Side note: I hope I don’t sound too negative. I just wanted to speak on this and my experience from this weekend just a little bit )

What to expect when…

April 26, 2011 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Wow! What a day?! It was an action packed adventure. There were ups and downs. I had me a couple ins and outs. As I sat down tonight, with all of the kids asleep, I wondered if there is a seminar, book, dvd, or cd that could help us when it comes to raising our kids. I remember that book “What to expect when you’re expecting,” or even “What to expect during the first year.” Those are great books, but there should be one called “What to expect when parenting…period” Let me tell you, I need a copy! It should say something like…
Expect to be challenged
Expect ups and downs
Expect messy clothes and poopy diapers
Expect dirty faces and possible poopy hands
Expect booger eating
Most of all expect the unexpected…

Man, what is a mom to do? I just know that there should have been a class in high school that would give women a realistic view on raising children older than one. Now, I love my children, I am just tired. Honestly after a day like the one I had…I should be tired. I must say, I am learning what to expect from my children. Maybe I should write the book…What to expect when parenting…PERIOD!!!
