It’s Not An Easy Job But It’s Mine…

March 27, 2014 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

As a mother, I get to have fun with my children.  I get to love on them and see them grow.  I get hug and kiss them and say good night.

I also get to make the hard decisions that they don’t like.

As I sat with my children last night, I thought of all of the different things that present themselves to my children on a daily basis.  My boys go to school and so this means that they see and hear a lot.  Think of the children that come to school and talk about the things that they see at home. Then there are the teachers with their thoughts and opinions.  While teaching my boys, I’m sure that their opinions are injected at times.

Then there are the things that present themselves through various types of media…tv, radio, movies, books, video games, internet, ect..

As parents we are the filters that stand between our children and the content.  We get to inspect and decide if the content is of a quality that we wish for our children to be exposed to.

I don’t want my children to be like ostriches that have to stick their heads in the sand, but I want to present them with wholesome options for entertainment.

We are training them and preparing them for their lives outside of our homes.  What we allow to infiltrate the small minds today, will take up residence in their adult minds later on in life.

So, it a must that the content that my children take in, line up with the things that we believe and teach in our homes.  As they grow older, we expose them to certain things and explain the various concepts to them.  We have to help their minds develop in a healthy way.  We don’t allow the world to train our children because the world won’t always tell the truth, especially when there is money involved.

Our children may not understand now, but one day they will. It isn’t an easy job to do, but I am honored that it’s mine and I’m proud to be their filter.

Today it is my prayer that God would help my husband and I to train up our children in the way that they should go, so that when they are old they will not depart from it.  In Jesus’ name. ~Amen

Getting It Out Of My System

March 26, 2014 By Mrs. Mom 4 Comments

Every have so much on your mind that you can’t function?

Ever have to focus on one thing, but can’t seem to because you are focusing on something else?

Well, that’s me today.  I have to do a lot of school work, but my head really isn’t in it today.  I can’t let it just sit. I’m really good at that.  If there were a class for letting your papers sit until the day before they are due…I’d get an A.  In fact, I think they would ask me to teach the class.  This is actually a habit that I am working on breaking.  I am trying to make sure that I am more consistent in what I am doing.

I have really big dreams, goals, and aspirations, but I often times let the fear of failure get in my way.  It stops me in my tracks.  I long to be so perfect at all that I do, that at times, I end up doing nothing.

OK…After writing that, I am asking myself if I really want to publish it and my answer is yes, I do.  I don’t want to hide behind a lie or a fa-sad of perfection, knowing that I am a work in progress.

If you’ve read my blog any, then you know that I am on a mission to encourage myself and others to be 100% authentic.  So this is my space of grace for myself today as I say how I really feel about that topic.

This isn’t even the reason why I was writing this post, but I just went there and it’s ok…

The things that I have on my mind are knitting…

20140120-120511.jpgRemember this sweater?  Well, mine will be a bit different, but I’m still working on it.  I just have to make sure that I find the time to knit.  With all of my other projects, it feels impossible, but…you make time to do what you want to do, right?!

I am also thinking about working on my new web design website.

simplyinspiredlaunchpadYes, that’s right!  I am establishing myself as a web designer.  I will be working on the web development in the near future.  However, the first step is to set up my design site.  I am so excited about this!  If you’d like to get in contact with me about designing your site send me an email at admin@simplyinspireddesigns.com .  You can also check out the website.  It will launch on April 15, 2014.  The site is http://simplyinspireddesigns.com

What else do I have on my mind?

Oh not much.  Just getting into grad school, reading, a few book reviews that I’ve been asked to do, my podcast, and Blog Talk Radio show,  my new bible study coming up, a crochet project to be completed, a website to be updated, a proposal to be sent out, a blanket to finish, another website project, and a card to make for a special young lady.  That’s about it…no there’s more.  I’m just going to stop for now.  None of this includes the things that I do for my family.  😉

I have a to-do list to make sure that I am not overwhelmed by it all. Oh and I’m blogging about it to get it out of my system.

Now I can focus on my school work.

Do you ever have times when you feel like you can’t move forward with something because you have too many other things on your mind?  What do you do to make sure that you are able to focus?  Do you have a characteristic that you are working on, like me…consistency?  Share your thoughts with me by leaving a comment below.

Here’s to getting focused!!!

Have a nice day 🙂

A Moment In Time

February 3, 2014 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

As I sit here this morning listening to the sound if the rain outside, breastfeeding my baby, I am filled with a peace and joy that is hard to explain.

Have you ever had a moment like that? A moment where things are still and quiet, where you are able to reflect on the things inside you and around you. A moment where you can hear The Lord tell you that He loves you?

As a mom, these moments don’t happen all of the time. I have to create moments like this. What do I mean?

Well, it’s 6:45am. That’s right! I’m up before my kids…and I’m doing nothing.

We had our prayer call this morning and I was encouraged to walk in love. Now I am preparing myself mentally for my day.

As mothers we are needed dearly by our children. Yet we can’t be what they need us to be, if we aren’t ok. We have to find out what it takes for us to be well, at peace within ourselves and to have joy.

That may mean having quiet time during the day, a bit just for mom, but for the kids too. I am finding that this idea of quiet time is new for many moms. Outside of nap time, there is no quiet, personal, alone time for both the children and the mom. Yet, this is how I have learned to stay healthy.

Quiet time is good for both mom or dad and the children.

We have to decide when and how to do it.

This is how I am doing it today. Sitting, listening to the rain…experiencing the peace if God within me.

I hope that you find time to have a quiet moment today.

Happy

January 25, 2014 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

I am very happy right now.

I just wanted to take a moment to say that I really love spending time with my husband and family.

My kids say the funniest things.

We laugh.

Have our ups and downs.

It was freezing outside, but we had a great night.

I honestly couldn’t ask for anything else as a mom and wife.

I am honored to be so blessed with my husband and children.

Yes, I am thankful and happy.

What are you thankful and happy about?

Using Wisdom When Frustrated

January 21, 2014 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Just because I have a blog doesn’t mean that it’s ok for me to vent about my frustrations when I am upset. It doesn’t mean that I have to pretend that I’m ok, but I need to be wise. I need to act in a manner that would represent me. A way that I would be proud to stand before God and claim.

Why am I saying this?

Well, if you can’t already tell, I’m frustrated…and as much as I would love to explain why, I’m not going to. What I am going to discuss is how I’m going to handle my frustration.

Well, first of all. I’m taking the time to be alone. I’m sitting in the bathroom with the shower water running. Yes, I’ll be getting I. The shower soon, but I needed to do this first. I’m going to take a moment to myself.

Next I’m going to pray…selah…
Yup, I just stopped and prayed.

I’m doing my best not to complain about the situation because I read a a scripture this morning that discouraged arguing and complaining. It was Philippians 2:14, 15

14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky

As I meditate on this scripture, I’m going to take a shower. Maybe that will help me cool down a bit. I’m going to take care of myself. That always helps a bit when things are frustrating.

While in the shower, I prayed again. I quieted my soul and mind. I felt like God was saying that I didn’t need to worry because he would take care of the situation.

After getting out, I told myself that I had given the situation to God and was not going to go back and get it. I am now ok. I’m not worried, frustrated, or angry.

The key was trusting God. There are times when this is harder than others, but it’s apart of my foundation.

This is how I do it. I hope it helps someone.

Yes…It is Tuesday

January 14, 2014 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

Yesterday was a very busy day for me.  I had a lot to do around the house and I got a lot done.

Today…well, that’s another story.  Although I am still working, I am not feeling it the way that I was feeling it yesterday.  Maybe it’s because it’s raining outside or because I’m tired from everything that I did yesterday.  Or…maybe it’s because it’s Tuesday.

I have to make myself tackle this stuff because it’s Tackle it Tuesday….

Tackle it Tuesday is the day where I try to get as much done as I possibly can so that I can continue to be productive for the remainder of the week.  This week my plate is full.  I have a final paper due this week and a few personal deadlines that I would like to meet as well.

Prior to writing this post, I was doing a lot.  I got a little tired and drained.  So, I decided to stop and take a break for a little while.  Writing is refreshing for me…so…here I am.  I may knit for a little while too.

I’m working on a sweater for myself that doesn’t require a lot of focused knitting because it’s in stockinette stitch.  I’ll be posting a picture of my progress soon.  I will also be posting a video of my works in progress and the Biweekly Swatch.  This is going to be the first one for the year.

See!  I feel better already.  I guess I just needed to stop and blog a little 😉

That’s why this is one of my favorite pastimes.

Have you ever had a Tackle it Tuesday?  How did you encourage yourself?
