Thoughts on Today

August 3, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

I have been sitting here thinking of what to share with you about my day.

IMG_0440.JPG

It was very busy and full of emotional ups and downs.

The ups were about my day. The downs were about my past month.

There were things that happened, conversations that I had, and questions that I asked, which are still on my mind.

Today, I realized, more than ever, that we may not get to choose the circumstances of our lives, but we do get to choose our reactions to them.

So this is what I want to share with you today.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8

The things that we think will help us act in a way that we can be proud of. The actions of others may cause us to consider doing things or saying things that are out of character, but prayer and proper thinking will help us to see life in a different light.

So try to make good decisions and have a good day.

Until next time…

Just Be You

June 24, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Being original isn’t hard, but for some reason, we all struggle at it a little bit.

We look around and see certain things working for some people and other things working for others. We wonder, “could any of this work for me.”

Without saying no, I am saying that it is extremely critical that we realize the importance in being unique.

IMG_9914.JPG

Out of all the people in the world, there are no two that share the same fingerprint. That says a lot.

Although we all have eyes and they range from green, to blue, to brown…no two people have the same iris or retinal pattern.

I would bet that if we were to count the number of hairs on our heads, we would find that we differ there as well.

What does this say about our Maker? What does this say about us.

Well, from where I’m sitting, it says that He likes variety and uniqueness. It says that being special is not found in our commonality, but in our uniqueness.

This makes sense because some people wonder how God could find you, me, and 50,000 others special. The truth is we are all special in different ways. He looks at us and sees who we are and that is what makes us special.

We each make Him laugh a certain way. We get His attention and touch His heart in a certain way…

Do you see where I am going with this?

Our family and friends feel the same way, even if they never say it. They see how unique and special we are and their hearts smile…

I am saying all of this to help you, and me, walk upright with our heads held high because we are, in our uniqueness, great.

So stop trying to be like the other gal and just be you…

You Are More…

May 27, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Sometimes we forget.

We forget that we are special.

We forget that we are unique.

We forget the times when we didn’t mess up.

We forget how much fun we are.

Sometimes we need to be reminded…

Someone sees you as amazing.

Someone thinks that you are great.

Someone wants you to shine.

…but what does it take for us to realize that we are more that we thought we were?

It takes a hit of encouragement.

I got that today. It was a dose of…you’re special.

Today through God’s word, someone told me that I am amazing and I smiled.

I smiled because for a moment I had forgotten the things that I was good at. I had forgotten not to compare myself to others. I saw their strengths and my weaknesses. I had forgotten that the standard I need to meet is God’s standard.

The word, sparked life into my being and it hit home that I am great and it’s ok because I’m not great in my own strength. I’m great in His.

Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well [with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness], but you excel them all.

With this word I realized that this is how God sees me. This is how He sees you. That uniqueness that we bring to the table makes him say this to both you and me. So…don’t change who you are. Be 100% you…ALL OF THE TIME…

And remember… You are amazing!

You Can Live Your Life Without Fear

May 25, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

IMG_9662.JPG

There are many people that live their lives, daily, in fear.

They are afraid of what happened, what is happening now, and what will happen soon.

Although we all have had experiences with fear, at some point in our lives, being fearful has to end. This no way to live a healthy life.

Well, what is a gal to do?

I’ll tell you what I had to do.

I had to learn that I can’t control everything and I’m not expected to.

I had to learn that there is a GREAT BIG GOD out there that cares about me and my family. He is the only one capable of controlling everything.

This task wasn’t easy, I must admit. Yet with all that it took within me, I wanted God to be in control of my life so that the things He promised me would happen. As I gave Him more control, He took the reins, and gave me peace.

That’s right! He took my anxiety and fear and gave me peace.

Now I walk, talk, and think differently.

365 times, in the Bible, God tells us not to fear.

That’s one time per day of the year.

Should anyone doubt the message, they could read it for themselves.

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. ~Psalm 34:4

Did you get that?

The Psalmist says that He sought the Lord and the Lord heard him and delivered him from ALL of his fears.

I don’t know about you, but that encourages me. If God would do it for Him, why wouldn’t He do it for you or me? God isn’t a respecter of persons. He loves all of us the same.

Still one of the keys is that we have to be willing to call upon the Lord, give Him our fears, and take what He gives us in return. If we do this, our lives end up filled with peace.

I’ve made the step and I feel God’s peace resting on me daily.

Will you take this step?

Say that today will be the last day that you live in fear…

Be encouraged and trust God.

Are You Faithful in The Little Things?

May 18, 2015 By Mrs. Mom 10 Comments

IMG_9604.JPGOften times we find ourselves committed to causes that we really believe in.

We make sure that we do all that we are asked to do. If we have committed to doing something or being somewhere, we’ll make sure that we are faithful to show up or do it. That’s great!

We are showing that we are disciplined.

Still, I have a question for you…

Are you as committed to yourself or even to your relationship with God as you are to these other commitments?

How many times do we make ourselves promises only to break them?

Where do we lack commitment to self?

Is it in working out?

Is it in reading, praying, or having time to rest?

Maybe you told yourself a long time ago that you wanted to do something, like finish your degree or go back to school, but you never did it.

Did you fine that you we committed to other things?

Now don’t get me wrong.

There is nothing wrong with having priorities and realizing that what you wanted to do for yourself, just didn’t fit into the picture at that time, but what about now?

Have you lost sight of a dream or desire and left it on the back burner?

Perhaps you’re like me and said that you wanted to read the Bible all the way through and never did it…well, what are we waiting for?

There will never be a better time than now to commit to doing something for ourselves.

God tells us to love one another as we have loved ourselves, but how can we do that if we have forgotten about ourselves and left her stranded in the dust somewhere, holding the promise of that commitment…

Really?! Are you still waiting on yourself to fulfill the commitment that you made to yourself years ago?

If your answer is yes…now is the time to get honest with you…

Today I encourage you, as I am encouraging myself, to prayerfully take a look at the things that you’ve wanted to do for yourself. PICK ONE and see where you can fit that commitment into your present life…

Be good to yourself so that you aren’t angry when God calls you to be good to someone else.

That’s right!!!

Be faithful in the small things for you.

People always call us to be faithful in the little things others, but you count too. Be faithful in the little things in your life…the little things that are important to you.

Perhaps you should take a rest today.

Maybe tomorrow, you can paint your nails.

Over the weekend you can go for a run or walk.

Read that book you’ve been wanting to read. I’m sure you can find an hour in your day to do this.

Talk to God while you ride in the car.

I’m sure that if you find time to do this, you will feel great about you.

Remember, you are loved and you matter!

How To Get Focused

February 15, 2015 By Mrs. Mom 6 Comments

There are times in life where it feels like the waves of life come crashing in on us…

It can feel like someone has suddenly rained on our parade…

We can even feel stuck…

Do you know the feeling?

I do.

I have been in that place before.  In thinking about those moments, I realize that there are two option that I have.  I can choose to let life have its way and stay down in the dumps or I can choose to be active and do something about life.

In moments like this, I run to God.  I run as fast and as hard as I can because, whether the situation is big or small, I feel like I am suffocating.  Gasping for air, I reach my hands up an pray that He feels me reaching, drawing, pulling near.  Somehow, in the midst of my desiring a sense of relief, feeling overwhelmed, and stressing… I feel his presence.

This was one of those days.

Yesterday was lovely…a day to experience and share love…

Today reality hits…the new week reminds me of educational deadlines, choices, and requirements.

I had one child that didn’t feel well last week and now another woke up not feeling well this morning.

Laundry, dishes, meeting, papers, deadlines…these things and more attempt to weigh me down, but suddenly…I am reminded that although it feels like a lot…there are things that could make my life a lot worse.

I am grateful…

Still I will not minimize my own struggles…we all have them.  We all have our moments and in order to become better we have to identify what they are.

When I said “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, held me up.  In the multitude of my thoughts within me, Your comforts delight my soul. ~ Psalm 94:18-19

Will I let the fear of failure, the fear of not meeting the standard stifle me…stunt my growth, cause me to stand motionless…stressed…

Dare I say no?

Yet if that if that is my answer there is something I must do…

You give power to the faint; and to those who have no might, You increase strength. ~Isaiah 40:29

Father, I need your strength.

That mental struggle…It can drain us…the cares of this life coupled together with the outer circumstances that press in on us.  The relationships…the give and take…the desire to do and not to do…the requirements, both imposed by others and self-imposed…the calm and strife…all of this…becomes a burden…

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for our souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ~Matthew 11:28-30

Rest for my soul…a lighter burden…

Today, like so many other days that have come before…I choose His way over mine.  I choose to breath and take in the rest that God has offered.  I choose to listen to the Holy Spirit within me that says I can and I will…the voice that says that there is no need to be afraid…

Today I choose which direction my ship will move in and I pray for the tools, the confidence, the strength, wisdom, discipline, the faith, and courage to do what I have to do…

Let us not minimize where we are in life.  Instead, let us approach each struggle with faith in God knowing that He cares about everything that we care about. (1 Peter 5:7) With the strength that we receive, let us move forward first from within…that is when we will begin to see the results that we desire.

It is my hope that my story encouraged you in some way and that I offered steps to help you overcome your struggle and get focused.

  • Run to God
  • Identify the struggle
  • View the struggle as it is in your life (don’t minimize it or make it bigger than it really is)
  • Make a choice to direct your own ship
  • Pray for direction
  • Plot the course and take action

Do you ever find yourself in this place…telling yourself that your struggles aren’t so bad because of how they compare to the rest of the world’s struggles, but never facing them head on to make the appropriate changes?  How do you deal with life’s struggles? Did you find this helpful?  I’d love to hear from you.
