Why Encourage Other People?

March 31, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

IMG_9289.JPG

As people we are all boggled down with life. We get so busy doing the things that we think are necessary and required. When we are not doing the necessary and required, we begin to do what we desire. Sometimes we fail to realize or just forget that we live in a community of people that need us…and we need them.

Whether we are thinking about our home, family, friends, neighbors, church, online community, or even, dare I say, the world…we all need each other. When individuals spend too much time alone, they begin to experience thoughts that may not be conducive to their “best” life. In the Bible, this loneliness or not having encouragement, led to a disbelief because people started to question the faith that they once had in God.(Hebrews 3) This is the reason why God tells us to exhort one another.

We have to be there, available, ready, and willing to encourage our brothers and sisters in the faith. We have no idea the struggles that they are going through and no one has any idea what we are going through as well. But God…

He is more that aware of our present condition and yes, He does and will encourage us, but He also gave us one another. We are a family and he wants us to help each other in our weakness.

If you are losing hope…don’t. Period…
God says in His word that no one who trust in and puts their hope in Him will ever be put to shame. (Romans 10:11)

If you feel like things are impossible…stop. Period…
God says in His word that with Him all things are possible.(Matthew 19:26)

If you feel like you have to give in to sin and temptation…don’t feel that way. And run!!! Period.
God says in His word that although sin comes to our house and knocked on the door, it crouches and waits, we have power over that sin…to overcome it. (Genesis 4:7, James 4:7)

If you feel that the cares in your life are just too much to bare and God doesn’t even care…like a car coming to a screeching holt, I say…DO NOT FEEL THAT WAY. Period…
God tells us in His word that he cares for us. In fact he wants us to thrust our cares upon Him because He cares. That’s right! He cares about everything that we care about. (1 Peter 5:7)

I am suggesting that you can just stop all of the things that I mentioned above. We have to take control of our emotions and cast vain thoughts out of our minds and vain imaginations off of us. (2 Corinthians 10:5) We have to tell ourselves (sometimes speaking out loud) that the thoughts and feelings that attempt to settle in us that are contrary to what God says and who He is, are all vain. Therefore, there is no need to hold on to them. We have to verbally cast them off!

Do you see how this works? I am encouraging you. Somehow, in encouraging you, I too, feel myself being encouraged. Why? Because we are the body of Christ and we need to build one another up so that or body can be strong. We are more connected that you know.

If one of us veers off to the left or the right, there are ravenous wolves waiting to devour…these are seen and unseen. Our thoughts and feelings are used as catalysts and springboards to set our hearts in motion away from or towards God.

So today lets stir one another up. Let’s encourage one another in the faith. Let’s encourage one another in relationships, work, hobbies, and life. God has empowered us to do it.

Someone might give up and turn away because we didn’t encourage him or her. That’s what the Bible says.

Be uniquely you, have no fear, and encourage someone else. You never know what a smile and a good word will do.

How To Get Focused

February 15, 2015 By Mrs. Mom 6 Comments

There are times in life where it feels like the waves of life come crashing in on us…

It can feel like someone has suddenly rained on our parade…

We can even feel stuck…

Do you know the feeling?

I do.

I have been in that place before.  In thinking about those moments, I realize that there are two option that I have.  I can choose to let life have its way and stay down in the dumps or I can choose to be active and do something about life.

In moments like this, I run to God.  I run as fast and as hard as I can because, whether the situation is big or small, I feel like I am suffocating.  Gasping for air, I reach my hands up an pray that He feels me reaching, drawing, pulling near.  Somehow, in the midst of my desiring a sense of relief, feeling overwhelmed, and stressing… I feel his presence.

This was one of those days.

Yesterday was lovely…a day to experience and share love…

Today reality hits…the new week reminds me of educational deadlines, choices, and requirements.

I had one child that didn’t feel well last week and now another woke up not feeling well this morning.

Laundry, dishes, meeting, papers, deadlines…these things and more attempt to weigh me down, but suddenly…I am reminded that although it feels like a lot…there are things that could make my life a lot worse.

I am grateful…

Still I will not minimize my own struggles…we all have them.  We all have our moments and in order to become better we have to identify what they are.

When I said “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, held me up.  In the multitude of my thoughts within me, Your comforts delight my soul. ~ Psalm 94:18-19

Will I let the fear of failure, the fear of not meeting the standard stifle me…stunt my growth, cause me to stand motionless…stressed…

Dare I say no?

Yet if that if that is my answer there is something I must do…

You give power to the faint; and to those who have no might, You increase strength. ~Isaiah 40:29

Father, I need your strength.

That mental struggle…It can drain us…the cares of this life coupled together with the outer circumstances that press in on us.  The relationships…the give and take…the desire to do and not to do…the requirements, both imposed by others and self-imposed…the calm and strife…all of this…becomes a burden…

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for our souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ~Matthew 11:28-30

Rest for my soul…a lighter burden…

Today, like so many other days that have come before…I choose His way over mine.  I choose to breath and take in the rest that God has offered.  I choose to listen to the Holy Spirit within me that says I can and I will…the voice that says that there is no need to be afraid…

Today I choose which direction my ship will move in and I pray for the tools, the confidence, the strength, wisdom, discipline, the faith, and courage to do what I have to do…

Let us not minimize where we are in life.  Instead, let us approach each struggle with faith in God knowing that He cares about everything that we care about. (1 Peter 5:7) With the strength that we receive, let us move forward first from within…that is when we will begin to see the results that we desire.

It is my hope that my story encouraged you in some way and that I offered steps to help you overcome your struggle and get focused.

  • Run to God
  • Identify the struggle
  • View the struggle as it is in your life (don’t minimize it or make it bigger than it really is)
  • Make a choice to direct your own ship
  • Pray for direction
  • Plot the course and take action

Do you ever find yourself in this place…telling yourself that your struggles aren’t so bad because of how they compare to the rest of the world’s struggles, but never facing them head on to make the appropriate changes?  How do you deal with life’s struggles? Did you find this helpful?  I’d love to hear from you.

Remember To Breathe

October 15, 2014 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

BreatheHave you ever had a moment when you found yourself gasping for air?

No, I don’t mean literally, but you can feel it.  It seems like everything around you is going so fast that you just can’t seem to catch your breath.

I know that you know what I’m talking about.

It’s that time in your life when you feel like you are spinning around in circles, getting dizzy, and are about to pass out because you aren’t getting enough oxygen to your brain.

Those are the times when it is imperative for us to take time away.  It might be a vacation.  It could be a day.  It could be as simple as a few minutes out of the time that you spend being super busy.  Where ever you make the time to do it, that time becomes your point of rejuvenation.

How do I know?  Well, it’s simple.  I’ve been there.

I’ve been at a point before where I was trying to be everything to everybody.  I thought that being a good woman, friend, and Christian meant that I had to say “yes!” and do it all…all the time.

That’s when, thankfully, God’s Holy Spirit stepped in and began to tell me something that I will never forget.

BREATHE…Don’t forget to breath

Hearing those words caused me to feel like someone cared about all that I had been experiencing and that I was important too.  I began to realize that I didn’t have to pour out everything in order to be the woman that I believed that God had created me to be.  It was OK to slow down or stop at a point when I knew that it was too much. I became more encouraged as I felt the Holy Spirit unction me to say “No, I’m sorry.  I understand, but the answer is no.”

Today my life is a bit more balanced.  I am no longer the same woman that I once was.  I know, now, how to say no.

So, why am I writing this?

I’m writing this because I believe that it is important to share my story so that I can help someone else.

If you are reading this and life seems to be moving at the speed of lighting, take a moment and breathe.

Find time throughout your day, week, month, and year to simply look up at the clouds or the sky…the trees, the stars…watch the kids play and as you do, remember to breathe.

Thank God for all you have and all He is in your life. Put one foot in front of the other and continue to move forward.

I hope you found comfort and encouragement in this.

Until next time…God bless you

A Few Of My Favorite…Scriptures

October 8, 2014 By Mrs. Mom 4 Comments

20141008-021006.jpgAnyone that’s been reading this blog for a while or knows me, knows that I enjoy encouraging people.

Many times in my life when I needed some encouragement, there was no one to be found, besides family, of course.

Yet, I longed for more.  I wanted to be able to sit down with a girlfriend and discuss the troubles that I was facing.  I wanted someone that could encourage me and not just let me wallow in the mud.  Instead what I found was a great friend in God.  He showed me how much He cared for me and how much He thought of me.

Why do I say that?  Well, if we look at the Scriptures, it becomes evident that God had us on His mind as the Bible was being written.  For a long time, it was a part of my Christian emergency on the go kit.  (before the Bible app)  I quickly learned that if I needed encouragement, I had to encourage myself through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

So today, I want to share a few of my favorite scriptures with you.  (By no means are these all of them.  Just a few that I want to share for today.)

Romans 10:11 For the scripture says, Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed. (When I needed boldness to stand on God’s word)

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (When I needed to understand how to go to God and what He expected of me)

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible (When I needed to know that God could do the impossible and that I could trust Him to do just that)

Matthew 6:33 But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (When I needed to know that God would take care of me, so I could seek His face and work in His kingdom without worrying about my needs and wants)

Isaiah 54: 4 Fear not; for you shall not be ashamed: neither be you confounded; for you shall not be put to shame: for you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood any more. (When I was afraid of what was to come and of what would be said about what happened)

Isaiah 54:5 For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and your Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. (When my heart was broken)

Isaiah 54: 13 And all your children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of your children. (Whenever I was…concerned for my children)

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, says the LORD. (When I am concerned about what others will say)

I really love all of Isaiah 54…it really speaks to me

Psalm 91:5-12 (for overall protection) You shall not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day;  Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday.  A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.  Only with your eyes shall you behold and see the reward of the wicked.  Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the most High, your habitation;  There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.  For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.  They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Psalm 34 (ALL)  verse 4: I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. (I needed to be reminded that the Lord hears me); verses 8-10 (the promise of God for my personal needs and wants);  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him.;  O fear the LORD, you his saints: for there is no lack to them that fear him.   The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

Psalm 2:8  Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. (When I would pray for people to get saved.  A reminder that God would hear me and His promise to act)

1 Peter 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you. (A constant reminder that God cares about everything the I care about…all of it)

James 5:14-16 (A reminder of the power of prayer)  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:  And the prayer of faith shall deliver the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (When I want to draw near to God, He want to draw near to me too)

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (Encouragement and reason to study…this scripture was the foundation for my Bible study life)

As I said before, these are not all of my favorites, but the one that came to my heart to share right now.  I hope you have found some encouragement in this.

Taking The Steps To Grow…Spiritually

October 4, 2014 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Taking Steps To Grow

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

~1 Corinthians 13:11

There is a normal cycle in our human existence.  We all go through a span of life development.

We are born into this life as a helpless baby.  We mature into a child, adolescent, and adult.  Even our adulthood is filled with a maturing process.  We go from being young adults to middle adulthood.  Finally we become an elder.  While this process is a natural one, there is also a spiritual process of development that we all must go through.  Yet there is a slight difference in the two.

The natural process of development takes place without our participation.  Every year we grow older, age, and change.  Life’s situations and circumstances cause us to develop, even in our minds.  Our brains change, developing the essential qualities needed to live a healthy life. Yet, the spiritual process is not the same.

As an adult that is a newly saved Christian, we are a new creature in Christ.  This means that we are born again and a babe in Christ.  After spending time in relationship with God through His word, we begin to mature.  However, this process of maturing requires more than what is required in our natural lives.

What I mean is that as a Christian ages, this is not equivalent to their level of spiritual maturity.  However God calls us to a place in Him where we go from being a child in Christ to being a young man or woman in Christ.  After that it is important that we begin to mature into an elder in the body of Christ.  In the body of Christ, new babes are always being born and we are called to help train them for service and for their lives in this earth.  (Titus 2:3-5) Yet we cannot do this if we stay babes ourselves.

This process of becoming spiritually mature requires our participation.  In the scripture above, Paul distinguishes some of the changes that take place.  He says that when he became a man, he put away childish things.  We must put away from us speaking as a child.  We must be willing to take the time necessary to acquire the understanding of a spiritually mature adult so that we no longer understand as a child.  Even our thoughts have to change from being childish to being spiritually mature, thinking on the things that are pleasing to God and replenishing to our spirit.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~Philippians 4:8

This is one of our first steps.

We must change the way we think.  We cannot do this on our own.  Instead, we have to allow God’s word to permeate our beings.  As we do, we will renew our minds and change the way we think. (Roman 12:2)

We also have to change what we do.  It is not enough to simply read the word of God.  We have to do it.  We have to decided that if our lives conflict with the word of God, we will bring things to a clear resolve by doing what the word says. (James 1:22)

In all of this, it is important that we seek to build a relationship with God, in faith as a changed individual. (Hebrews 10:22)

We all want to be our best.  We want to be good wives, mothers, daughters, friends, aunts, sisters, cousins…you name it…we want to be our best.  If we want this, we have to do what it takes to be that.  We have to afford ourselves the opportunities to be our best.  Yet, when we do not pursue the things of God, we rob ourselves and those in our lives of experiencing us at our best.

I hope this message comes across in a way that blesses you.  I have found that being my best means saying no to some things and yes to others.  I have to trust God at His word and do what He says, so that my life can be a reflection of His love.  It might be challenging, but when we look back and see how far we have come, it will all be worth it.

As we bring this week to a close, let’s think about the things we can change in our lives. What are new habits to build and old ones to break? How can our relationship with God and others be better? What is our relationship with the Word of God?

Basically, let’s do some evaluating so that we will be ready tomorrow to start a new week, moving forward spiritually.

Sentenced to Life

June 22, 2014 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

Christ came to give us life
Christ came to give us life

This morning as I sat thinking.

I thought…

I asked God questions and I thought some more.

I meditated on the word of God that rose up in my heart and…

As clear as day, I could hear the Holy Spirit in my heart.

“I came that you may have life and life more abundantly…”

I wanted to lay my eyes upon those words because I felt that they had rejuvenated my soul.

Suddenly, I felt like I could make it through anything that life would throw my way.

Finally, I found it.  The scripture that would give me the strength to smile and be productive today.  These were the words that reminded me that the Lord cared for me, everyday of my life.

“The thief cometh not , but for to steal, and kill, and to destroy: I come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

I know that the words said “they”, but this scripture became very personal to me.  I felt like the Holy Spirit was saying, “Makeda, I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly.”

With those words, the feelings of being cared for and loved emanated through out my being…

I must admit…there are times when I am really struggling with a thing…

In my heart, I am yearning for God to fix my issue, although, I may not even know what it is…

I long for Him to calm my soul and bring me to a place of rest…

I can feel Him calling me to that place, but often times, in order to embrace it, I must first be clear of what it is that He is actually saying to me.

I heard the Holy Spirit, but for a moment, my emotions got in the way.

It is as if I have to bring my soul to believe what it is that my spirit is perceiving from God.

That is why, I meditated.

The biblical word for meditate is to think and talk to yourself about a thing or to have a conversation with oneself.

This is what I did.

It was what I had to do.

I had t make sure that I got it.

I couldn’t spend my day feeling some sort of way that I could not even explain.

Now here I sit…knowing that God cares for me…today.

He said that He wants me to have life and to have it more abundantly…

With that I am strengthened…

Have you ever felt this way?

Have you ever need affirmation from God of His love and that He cared?  What did you do?  How did you feel?

Leave me a comment…
