The Trustworthiness of God: Psalm 115

September 13, 2016 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Today, I want to invite you to take a look at Psalm 115 with me.  Within it, we will find something that cannot be overlooked, the difference between who God is and who the idols are.

Believe it or not, people still worship idols today.  To some degree, we also have to be careful of the image that we have of God.  For if it is not the correct image, we too are creating an idol.  We must know who we worship and serve.  We must remember what He is like.  We must remind ourselves of His characteristics and when we are unsure, we must go back to the word of God.

When we have the right image of God, we will also recognize that we can trust Him.  We will give Him the glory that is due to Him and we will see Him at work in our lives; not because He has finally began to work, but because our eyes are open to the works of His hands.

Psalm 115

Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Your name give glory, because of Your mercy, because or Your truth.

Why should the Gentiles say, “So where is their God?”

But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.

Their idols are silver and gold, the work men’s hands.

They have mouths, but they do not speak; eyes they have, but they do not see;

They have ears, but they do not hear; noses they have, but they do not smell;

They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat.

Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.

O Israel, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield.

O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield.

You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield.

The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.

He will bless those who fear the Lord, both small and great.

May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children.

May you be blesses by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

The heaven, even the heavens are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men.

The dead do not praise the Lord, nor any who go down into silence.

But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.

Praise the Lord!

Having the correct image of God and knowing His character, helps us to trust in Him.  If you think about it, this is how we build trust with everyone.  Their past actions and understanding their character allow us to feel safe when we are around them.  If we know that someone can be relied upon, we know that they will do what they say that they are going to do.  When we know that a friend will not share a secret, we feel that we are able to reveal more to them.

It is the same way with God.  When we see Him provide for us and protect us on a daily basis, we will trust Him as a provider and a protector.  However, I also want to mention this.  When we don’t take the time to look at what God has done, it becomes easier to forget.  When we have experienced hardship in our lives or heard of those that have, it becomes harder to trust God; Not because He is less trustworthy, but because we do not see Him in relation to our circumstance correctly.

This is why it is important for us to take the time, everyday, to look into the word of God.  When we do, we receive a correct image of God, ourselves, and the world around us.

Our God is trustworthy!

The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us ~Psalm 115:12 Click To Tweet

He is not an idol, made by man.  He hears our prayers and speaks to our hearts.  He reaches out to us and works on our behalf.  He dances over us with singing.(Zephaniah 3:17)  He is so much more than idol.  He is active.

Every morning when we wake up, it is the Lord that has given us another opportunity to live.  It is the Lord that has breathed breath into our lungs.  It is the Lord.

Looking at the world and our lives with this sense of His continual working for and doing, to bless us, changes how we view everything.  It also changes how we see Him.  It allows us to see that He has always been faithful and will continue to be faithful.  Having this view, changes us.  We come to see ourselves as loved and cared for.

Today I would like to challenge you to take the time to look at your life.  What has God done for you?  I want you to think about the simple things and the complex.  What do you have that you take for granted? Who has God blessed you with?  Count your blessings today and look to the One that has made it all possible.  Realize that He is working to protect us, even as we sleep.  He is always mindful of us.(Psalm 115:12)  Let’s attribute this to His character.  He is trustworthy.

He can be trusted with all that we have and all that we are. Click To Tweet

Thanks for taking the time to read through Psalm 115 with me today.  I hope that you were blessed.  I pray that you are strengthened by the word and that God continues to make Himself know to you.

When you’re finally ready to do it…

October 14, 2015 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

When you're finally ready to do it.

Have you ever had a time in your life where you keep on waiting on someone to do something. You didn’t want to overstep any boundaries or make anyone feel bad, so you just kept on waiting? Then when you were finally tired of waiting and decided to do the thing yourself, they did it.

That is what happened to me this morning. I had been waiting for the gardeners to come and take care of the yard. I had been doing it myself, but we went on vacation for 3 weeks and I thought they would take care of the yard. Once we returned from our trip, I found weeds galore. My bushes were unkept and my yard looked horrible.

This disappointed me because the gardeners are paid to keep up the yard. I planted beautiful flowers before in the yard, but I guess I had expected them to do their job especially since I was gone.

I had been waiting and waiting, mostly because I didn’t have the time to do it and also because I didn’t want to do their job for them. Then yesterday, I decided that today, I would go to the store and get the flowers that I really wanted. I would take the time today to plant the flowers and do my yard.

To my surprise, this morning, at 8am, the gardeners were outside doing everyone’s yard.

Can you say frustrated?  That’s how I felt…

I decided that I would let them do their job and just continue on with whatever they left me with. That thought was a good one, until I heard the chopping.

I went to my window and saw them ripping out my beautiful pink flowers. I could feel them ripping them away in my heart…that’s when I couldn’t take it anymore. I opened the door and asked if they were really about to rip out all of my beautiful flowers. The gentleman told me no. He said that they were just trying to get ready for the fall. I didn’t like the idea of them gutting my yard, but I decided to let them do it anyway.

There are a few reasons why I want to share this with you.  I learned a few things and I’m hoping that you will find the lessons helpful.

Reason #1: Perspective

The first reason is that sometimes people are waiting on us to do things. They wait and wait, patiently, frustrated, and trying not to overstep our boundaries. Then when we are finally ready to do the job, they have planned to do it. We show up ready to work, it is almost too late.

If this is a situation that you find yourself in, look at the situation from this perspective.  Try to communicate. The other person cannot read your mind.

Reason #2: Make a Decision

I am sure that the gardeners were busy with their other jobs. They probably had already set the date on their calendars to go out to the homes and prepare each garden for the fall. It just so happened that I took too long to do what I was going to do. I didn’t know what they had planned and they didn’t know that I was also waiting and planning.

We have to either let someone do the job that they are supposed to do or hurry up and do it ourselves. Both situations are not going to work together…at the same time. Only one person can do the job… Only one plan can work.

If you find yourself in this situation, decide what you are going to do and stick with it.

Reason #3: Trust God

This reason is the one that stood out to me the most. There are times when God is doing something that I do not understand. I’m not sure what is happening because He has not revealed all of His plans to me. Yet, I know that His plans are to prosper me. (Jeremiah 29:11)

All I see is weeds growing, things not being done, and my impatience driving me up the wall. Yet, I do not realize that God has it on His calendar to do something in my life, His way. I could try to hurry up and do it, but I might mess it all up.

Waiting on Him is not easy, but this is His job, to work in my life; to take care of me, as my Heavenly Father. He does what only He can do. If I wait on Him, He will take care of everything and have my garden looking beautiful and ready for the Fall…yet it won’t be a pretty sight while He is ripping up all of my weeds and trimming all of my bushes. He might have to gut a few of my beautiful pink flowers because they are not needed or can’t survive the next season. I just have to trust Him and move out of the way so that He can do what He is going to do.

If you find yourself in this situation or can identify with my sentiment, simply, trust God.

Think about it..

When I first started this post, I asked you if you had a time when you were waiting on someone to do something, but you really were planning on doing it yourself. Hopefully you have now thought about each perspectives and not just your own.

Can you see the godly perspective?

That is the perspective that is most important. Waiting on God is wisdom. Moving out of the way so that He can do what He desires it’s the best thing to do. His plans for us are the best plans that anyone could ever have for us, including our own plans.

As I waited inside of my house, with the blinds closed, I wanted so badly to have my hand in my garden. Yet, I restrained myself, because I thought it was best. If you find yourself in a similar situation, be encouraged because you are not alone.

I hope you found encouragement in this post.  Share your thoughts with me in the comment section.

Thanks for reading…

Who Can You Trust?

August 18, 2015 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

Everyday we go through things. Life is filled with ups and downs. When we are hurt, we can begin to wonder, who we can trust…

No matter what there is one thing that we must remember.

That’s right!!!

We must trust in Him because He will never, ever, fail us.

There are so many people that will let us down. There are so many people that will forget…

They will turn and walk away. They may give up. They may say things that are hurtful, but there is One that will never treat you this way.

He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He lives up to being the Best and will always exceed our expectations.

Today, I want you to remember as I am reminded…our God is great.

Never wonder again who you can trust in…Trust God because He will never fail us.
