Knitting: Baby Booties

July 29, 2013 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

20130729-112100.jpg

The time is near and I am so excited to be expecting our new little girl. With all of the excitement, I decided to knit her some booties. I wasn’t sure how long it was going to take, but I’m almost done. That’s right!!! I’m almost done. The only thing I have to do next is to sew them up on the edges.

I’m thinking of making her a matching hat and something else. I’m just not quite sure what else yet.

I guess I can be motivated to knock out certain projects when I want. This is obviously a time that I want to finish the project.

She’s almost here!!!

Thoughts on my hair…

July 28, 2013 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Have you ever thought of cutting your hair? How about perming it?

I have spent the past four years natural. I haven’t cut, permed, or changed the state of my hair chemically since I did my big chop. I really love my hair, when it looks the way that I want it to. Yet there are times, like today, when I really don’t feel like messing with it. I have 4a/b hair. What does that mean? Well, it means that I have tightly coiled hair. My hair is shoulder length, but after washing it, it shrinks above my ear. This can be really frustrating because it takes a lot to actually style it.

Actually, I’m sitting here right now trying to figure out what I’ve been doing with my hair for the past four years…Oh how quickly the time flies by.

I think many black women that have transitioned their hair to it’s natural state go through the same thing. We each cope with it in different ways and try to find different ways of handling “the hair crisis.”

Patience…that’s what it takes. The only way to figure out what works for me is to try different things. In the process, I’ll figure out what works and what doesn’t work…

This is what I think of my hair today…uh…

Knitting: What’s on My Needles

July 27, 2013 By Mrs. Mom 6 Comments

20130727-152108.jpg

Over the past few years, I’ve read multiple blog posts of knitters that are able to complete projects within a weeks time. Let me be the first to say, I am not one of those knitters.

With so much going on in my life, it’s a blessing if I find time to get half way through a project in less than two weeks. I have decided, however, to attempt to complete projects at a faster pace.

One reason for my decision is that I want to sell my crafts on Etsy. I have a friend that crochets and she has an etsy store. Within a few months she made 17 sales that totaled about $400 dollars. I talked to her recently and Found her words very encouraging. In short she said, “get to work girl!” She knows how to inspire me.

So there are two items on my needles right now. The type of yarn, I’m not sure. I started working on these items at my leisure and didn’t annotate the yarn that I was using. I’ll be able to go back and check my ralvery stash to update them.

The first project is a basic shawl in brown. The second project it a multicolored hat. The hat is in a child’s size. I plan on making a scarf for it that will match.

So the truth…I may not be one of those knitters that can knock out multiple projects in a week, but I have a few goals that I’ll be working toward.

Do you have any goals that you’ve set or need to set in order to fee that you are progressing in some way? Tell me about it.

Christian Mom Reads Book Club

June 12, 2013 By Mrs. Mom 5 Comments

I recently decided to start a group on goodreads.  It is such an awesome website with multiple avenues of expressing our love for books, that I decided to start the Christian Mom Reads group.

Here is a description of the group:

With all of the hustle and bustle that we as moms experience, we often experience a longing to have a place to call our own.  This is one of those places.

We can read books that touch our hearts and encourage our souls.  Want to just share what you are reading or find a new author or book to read?  This is the right group for you.

Ever wonder if the content of a book is appropriate for yourself or for your family?  Together we can read and discuss the different types of books out there and come to a well thought out decision as to whether or not the book is what we desire for both ourselves and our families.

We want to read books that are fun, encouraging, entertaining, expressive, and inspiring…yet those are not always easy to find. Let’s explore together.

We can discuss books and the adventurous life of mothering, together, one book at a time.

If you are interested in joining the group you can visit the Christian Mom Reads Goodreads group page.  You can also like the Facebook page for the group.  I will also be creating new posts for the group on this site as well. So if you want you can stay tuned and you won’t miss a thing.

My Straightened Hair

June 12, 2013 By Mrs. Mom 1 Comment

20130612-105854.jpg

I had been going to and fro with my all natural, un-straightened hair for about 2 years.  I have already been natural, without any type of processing, perms, or color for the past 4 years, but I straightened it 2 years ago.  At that time, I straightened it frequently and I ended up damaging my hair.  That was when I decided that I would not use so much heat on my hair.  After making that decision, I didn’t use heat at all and my hair grew back very fast.

This year, I decided to straighten it.  I must say that I loved the texture, length, and fullness of my hair.  I am so glad that I did it.  Let me clarify what I mean by straightened.  I flat ironed my hair.

I am still 100% natural…

Now I need to decide what to do with my hair next…
