To Things I Enjoy…

December 30, 2013 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Today I am working on two things that I enjoy, my blog and knitting.

I am working on a hat pattern that I got off of Ravelry.  It’s called Child’s Self-striping Hat by Janet D. Russell.  I started working on it in the beginning of December.  It is a really easy pattern.  I had to get a circular needle that wouldn’t cause my stitches to stretch.  I am using the Adriafil Knitcol yarn in a rainbow color of pink, purple, and yellow.

I am making this for my baby girl.  I tried it on her and it is a little big, but that’s because I thought that here head was bigger than it is.  I know that’s funny, but it’s the truth.  She’ll be able to wear it when she hits 6 months.

If you are interested in making a hat like this one, check it out on Ravelry.

I will also be adding some content on my page about blogging, Twitter, and Facebook.  I have found that people have a lot of questions about the ways that they use the internet, but they aren’t sure what to ask. I have also been having a few conversations with my Twitter, Facebook and family about blogging intentions and techniques. I plan on adding a few posts to my site about topics like this.

If there are any topics that you would like to hear about, let me know. 🙂

Knitting: Baby Booties

July 29, 2013 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

The time is near and I am so excited to be expecting our new little girl. With all of the excitement, I decided to knit her some booties. I wasn’t sure how long it was going to take, but I’m almost done. That’s right!!! I’m almost done. The only thing I have to do next is to sew them up on the edges.

I’m thinking of making her a matching hat and something else. I’m just not quite sure what else yet.

I guess I can be motivated to knock out certain projects when I want. This is obviously a time that I want to finish the project.

She’s almost here!!!

Knitting: What’s on My Needles

July 27, 2013 By Mrs. Mom 6 Comments

Over the past few years, I’ve read multiple blog posts of knitters that are able to complete projects within a weeks time. Let me be the first to say, I am not one of those knitters.

With so much going on in my life, it’s a blessing if I find time to get half way through a project in less than two weeks. I have decided, however, to attempt to complete projects at a faster pace.

One reason for my decision is that I want to sell my crafts on Etsy. I have a friend that crochets and she has an etsy store. Within a few months she made 17 sales that totaled about $400 dollars. I talked to her recently and Found her words very encouraging. In short she said, “get to work girl!” She knows how to inspire me.

So there are two items on my needles right now. The type of yarn, I’m not sure. I started working on these items at my leisure and didn’t annotate the yarn that I was using. I’ll be able to go back and check my ralvery stash to update them.

The first project is a basic shawl in brown. The second project it a multicolored hat. The hat is in a child’s size. I plan on making a scarf for it that will match.

So the truth…I may not be one of those knitters that can knock out multiple projects in a week, but I have a few goals that I’ll be working toward.

Do you have any goals that you’ve set or need to set in order to fee that you are progressing in some way? Tell me about it.

My New Journal

For weeks, I had been extremely busy and I hadn’t got a chance to do much crafting. I was busy with school, my kids, my husband, my house, and being pregnant. That last on is a doozy. 🙂 Anyhow, it normally takes me about a year to fill up a journal, but after making my last one, in November, I completely filled it up.

For a few days, I kept thinking of how badly I wanted to make my new journal. I kept trying to finish up my school work and my house work, so that I could peacefully craft. I have no idea what I was thinking. Housework, schoolwork, parenting, and all of the other things that I have going on in my life are never really done. Knowing this, I had to make room in my schedule to craft.

As I sat for an hour and a half, I rested my mind as my hands worked. I realized that I feel so free when I’m crafting. I don’t think I had realized it before, but on that day, I got it.

I looked through all of the different types of paper and materials that I had. I wanted to do something with spring in mind. I wanted something that would make me smile and bring me joy as I wrote in it. I decided to use one of the paper packets from close to my heart. I used the Chantilly Paper pack.

With this paper pack and a few embellishments, I created the perfect personal journal. I have really enjoyed it. One thing about creating things myself is that I want to create more beautiful pieces.

(Side note: if you would like to purchase a paper pack like this visit my CTMH site.)

Heart Breaks of Sandy: A Heart to Help

November 7, 2012 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Hurricane Sandy took place last week. The aftermath of the disaster is still affecting tons of Americans. When watching the news, I can’t help but to feel compassionate for the people that have lost everything. Many of them have no where to go. Others are walking around cold and hungry.

As I watch the news, I wish that I had so much more to give. It would be nice if I had homes to give away or food to feed everyone. I’ve realized that I want to do something. Here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to stop wishing and do something.

I enjoy knitting and crocheting. I am going to take yarn that I have in my stash and make some hats, scarves, gloves, and fingerless gloves. Then I’m going to send them to my aunt in New York so that she can give them out to people in need. She told me that she is going to hand them out to the kids at school as well.

I was reminded yesterday that there is a lot that one individual can do in the world to make a difference. It may not seem like a lot, but the truth is that everything starts with one person. I am choosing to do what I can for the people that I am thinking of. The gifts and talents that I have could really help some people. Can you feel my excitement?!

Learning to Cross Stich

August 16, 2012 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

I have a neighbor, that is really nice, and loves to cross stitch. She recently showed me all of her products and I became excited. Those of you who know me, know that I really enjoy trying new things. I went to the store today and picked up a little something. It was a very small cross stitching set. I couldn’t wait to uses it, so when I got home I showed it to her. She taught me how to {Read More}
