It is known that I really enjoy reading. I’ve set reading goals and even studied English and Literature in college. Although I enjoy my studies, nothing brings me more pleasure that watching and listening to my children read.
Ice-man is at the end of his kindergarten year and he has been learning how to read. Today was a short day at school, so I was going to have to get him there early. I didn’t think that that we would have time to go over his books, but he surprised me.
Each time he brings home books, I read them to him first. Then he reads the books by himself. We offer him help, or course, but we mostly encourage him to sound out the words that are giving in trouble. Each set of books that he gets is harder that the previous set.
Today he had three new books and they seemed a bit challenging for him, at least from my perspective. Yet, he took those books and read them in less that 30 minutes. Oh how my heart smiled. I was so proud of my little buddy. He learned 6 new words and continued to read. That brought so much joy to my heart.
Gladly, I signed the slip for him to return to school. I think I am more excited that he is about getting the next set of book. I love watching my children learn and grow.
