How To Get Focused

February 15, 2015 By Mrs. Mom 6 Comments

There are times in life where it feels like the waves of life come crashing in on us…

It can feel like someone has suddenly rained on our parade…

We can even feel stuck…

Do you know the feeling?

I do.

I have been in that place before.  In thinking about those moments, I realize that there are two option that I have.  I can choose to let life have its way and stay down in the dumps or I can choose to be active and do something about life.

In moments like this, I run to God.  I run as fast and as hard as I can because, whether the situation is big or small, I feel like I am suffocating.  Gasping for air, I reach my hands up an pray that He feels me reaching, drawing, pulling near.  Somehow, in the midst of my desiring a sense of relief, feeling overwhelmed, and stressing… I feel his presence.

This was one of those days.

Yesterday was lovely…a day to experience and share love…

Today reality hits…the new week reminds me of educational deadlines, choices, and requirements.

I had one child that didn’t feel well last week and now another woke up not feeling well this morning.

Laundry, dishes, meeting, papers, deadlines…these things and more attempt to weigh me down, but suddenly…I am reminded that although it feels like a lot…there are things that could make my life a lot worse.

I am grateful…

Still I will not minimize my own struggles…we all have them.  We all have our moments and in order to become better we have to identify what they are.

When I said “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, held me up.  In the multitude of my thoughts within me, Your comforts delight my soul. ~ Psalm 94:18-19

Will I let the fear of failure, the fear of not meeting the standard stifle me…stunt my growth, cause me to stand motionless…stressed…

Dare I say no?

Yet if that if that is my answer there is something I must do…

You give power to the faint; and to those who have no might, You increase strength. ~Isaiah 40:29

Father, I need your strength.

That mental struggle…It can drain us…the cares of this life coupled together with the outer circumstances that press in on us.  The relationships…the give and take…the desire to do and not to do…the requirements, both imposed by others and self-imposed…the calm and strife…all of this…becomes a burden…

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for our souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ~Matthew 11:28-30

Rest for my soul…a lighter burden…

Today, like so many other days that have come before…I choose His way over mine.  I choose to breath and take in the rest that God has offered.  I choose to listen to the Holy Spirit within me that says I can and I will…the voice that says that there is no need to be afraid…

Today I choose which direction my ship will move in and I pray for the tools, the confidence, the strength, wisdom, discipline, the faith, and courage to do what I have to do…

Let us not minimize where we are in life.  Instead, let us approach each struggle with faith in God knowing that He cares about everything that we care about. (1 Peter 5:7) With the strength that we receive, let us move forward first from within…that is when we will begin to see the results that we desire.

It is my hope that my story encouraged you in some way and that I offered steps to help you overcome your struggle and get focused.

  • Run to God
  • Identify the struggle
  • View the struggle as it is in your life (don’t minimize it or make it bigger than it really is)
  • Make a choice to direct your own ship
  • Pray for direction
  • Plot the course and take action

Do you ever find yourself in this place…telling yourself that your struggles aren’t so bad because of how they compare to the rest of the world’s struggles, but never facing them head on to make the appropriate changes?  How do you deal with life’s struggles? Did you find this helpful?  I’d love to hear from you.

The Choices That We Make

January 27, 2015 By Mrs. Mom 2 Comments

Over the course of our life times we are faced with choices.

Our life experiences shape the way that we view the world and in a way, they predetermine the choices that we make…unless something or someone intervenes to help reshape the way that we view the world.

In this manner, our relationships become as important, if not more important than the experiences that we’ve had.

Last night, I sat and had a conversation with my husband about a few things.   I realized, once again, that it is important to get wise counsel before making a choice, if I’m not sure what to do.  (And in many cases, even when I’m sure what to do)

You see, just because we view the world in a specific way doesn’t mean that it’s the way that the world should be viewed.  Just because we want to handle a situation a certain way, doesn’t mean that we should…

Sometimes…most of the times…no, all of the times…it is important for us to thoroughly consider the choices that we make.  How will our choices affect other people?  How will they affect us?

We have to take our time to make the proper, correct, right choice…the one that represents us…

I am thankful for my husband.  I am thankful for his wisdom.  I am thankful for our unity.

It is my hope that I would always be able to consider the various options before me and the effects of each choice that I make, wisely.

Have you ever realized that your choices should be thoroughly considered and in considering them, you changed your mind?  If so, what or who made you see this?  What would the outcome have been like if you made the other choice?  Please share…

Sentenced to Life

Christ came to give us life
Christ came to give us life

This morning as I sat thinking.

I thought…

I asked God questions and I thought some more.

I meditated on the word of God that rose up in my heart and…

As clear as day, I could hear the Holy Spirit in my heart.

“I came that you may have life and life more abundantly…”

I wanted to lay my eyes upon those words because I felt that they had rejuvenated my soul.

Suddenly, I felt like I could make it through anything that life would throw my way.

Finally, I found it.  The scripture that would give me the strength to smile and be productive today.  These were the words that reminded me that the Lord cared for me, everyday of my life.

“The thief cometh not , but for to steal, and kill, and to destroy: I come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

I know that the words said “they”, but this scripture became very personal to me.  I felt like the Holy Spirit was saying, “Makeda, I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly.”

With those words, the feelings of being cared for and loved emanated through out my being…

I must admit…there are times when I am really struggling with a thing…

In my heart, I am yearning for God to fix my issue, although, I may not even know what it is…

I long for Him to calm my soul and bring me to a place of rest…

I can feel Him calling me to that place, but often times, in order to embrace it, I must first be clear of what it is that He is actually saying to me.

I heard the Holy Spirit, but for a moment, my emotions got in the way.

It is as if I have to bring my soul to believe what it is that my spirit is perceiving from God.

That is why, I meditated.

The biblical word for meditate is to think and talk to yourself about a thing or to have a conversation with oneself.

This is what I did.

It was what I had to do.

I had t make sure that I got it.

I couldn’t spend my day feeling some sort of way that I could not even explain.

Now here I sit…knowing that God cares for me…today.

He said that He wants me to have life and to have it more abundantly…

With that I am strengthened…

Have you ever felt this way?

Have you ever need affirmation from God of His love and that He cared?  What did you do?  How did you feel?

Leave me a comment…

Just Breathe

March 25, 2014 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Checklist We all have things to do.

We have our long lists and our requirements.

We have the expectations of ourselves and of others.

We have the things we want to do for ourselves and the things that others want us todo for them.

We have the nonstop coming and going, the long waiting to get nowhere fast.

Heart

In the midst of all of this our minds and hearts become overwhelmed with the cares of this life.

When will it ever stop?

How are we able to sleep at night?

We can’t…at least not restfully…

The thoughts keep racing. We worry and fret about things that haven’t even happened yet.  We aren’t even sure if they ever will.

So what should we do?

How do we stop ourselves from feeling overwhelmed and tired emotionally?

We have to STOP and take a deep breath.  It will take some focus to do nothing else in that moment, but it is imperative to find a way to just breathe.

Just Breathe

This is what I’m telling myself today.

I have a lot on my plate and to make sure that I don’t get overwhelmed, I have to remove somethings.

Before I do that I am going to take some time to rest and breathe.

I hope that you find encouragement in this as well and that you are able to do the same.

Remember…our hearts can only take so much…

Have fun in life, love what you do, run the race, kill the giants, but don’t forget to breathe…

When You Miss Someone…

March 22, 2014 By Mrs. Mom 1 Comment

When you miss someone, your cheeks feel heavy and it’s hard to smile.

When you miss someone, you forget the definition of a little while.

When you miss someone, you wish that they were near.

You try to find ways to show them that you care.

When you miss someone, you forget about the bad

Only thinking of the good

You try to think of the words that you would say if you could

See them right now, You’d feel really great

But they are in another country, city, or state

Or maybe they are gone…

Have passed and quietly moved on

When you miss someone, your heart swells with love

And it longs to say “Yes, it’s you, I’m thinking of…”

I Am Poem

February 10, 2014 By Mrs. Mom Leave a Comment

Poems

I am creative and caring.
I wonder if I’ll live to be 199.
I hear the sound of my little baby girl singing.
I see love dancing in her eyes.
I want a spinning wheel.
I am creative and caring.

I pretend that I am a singer on a stage
I feel apprehensive and concerned.
I touch God’s hands in the sky.
I worry about my mom sometimes.
I cry when I think those that reject God’s love.
I am creative and caring.

I understand that people have their own choices.
I say that love changes people.
I dream of owning a great business that encourages others.
I try to think of other people’s feelings before I speak.
I hope my husband is alright.
I am creative and caring.

(The idea for this poem came from a prompt that my son had for a homework assignment)
