Laugh a Little
Christian Mom Reads Book Club
I recently decided to start a group on goodreads. It is such an awesome website with multiple avenues of expressing our love for books, that I decided to start the Christian Mom Reads group.
Here is a description of the group:
With all of the hustle and bustle that we as moms experience, we often experience a longing to have a place to call our own. This is one of those places.
We can read books that touch our hearts and encourage our souls. Want to just share what you are reading or find a new author or book to read? This is the right group for you.
Ever wonder if the content of a book is appropriate for yourself or for your family? Together we can read and discuss the different types of books out there and come to a well thought out decision as to whether or not the book is what we desire for both ourselves and our families.
We want to read books that are fun, encouraging, entertaining, expressive, and inspiring…yet those are not always easy to find. Let’s explore together.
We can discuss books and the adventurous life of mothering, together, one book at a time.
If you are interested in joining the group you can visit the Christian Mom Reads Goodreads group page. You can also like the Facebook page for the group. I will also be creating new posts for the group on this site as well. So if you want you can stay tuned and you won’t miss a thing.
My Straightened Hair
I had been going to and fro with my all natural, un-straightened hair for about 2 years. I have already been natural, without any type of processing, perms, or color for the past 4 years, but I straightened it 2 years ago. At that time, I straightened it frequently and I ended up damaging my hair. That was when I decided that I would not use so much heat on my hair. After making that decision, I didn’t use heat at all and my hair grew back very fast.
This year, I decided to straighten it. I must say that I loved the texture, length, and fullness of my hair. I am so glad that I did it. Let me clarify what I mean by straightened. I flat ironed my hair.
I am still 100% natural…
Now I need to decide what to do with my hair next…
Books to E-books
Today I went to Barnes and Nobles. There isn’t anything special about that, but something is different. In my purse I had my Kindle Fire HD and I knew that I would not be making any purchases. As I went from isle to isle, I asked myself why I was putting myself through the headache. I really enjoy the atmosphere of book stores and I love books. Yet recently I have decided to get rid of the majority of my books and replace them on my newly purchased Kindle. This was not an easy decision. I have six book shelves of books and more in boxes. I love the way that books feel in my hand and I really enjoy reading them. Still there is good reasoning behind my decision. We will be moving soon and, well, my books take up space. Not to mention that the more they weigh, the more they count against my household good weight in transportation.
With that in mind, I went out and go a Kindle Fire HD and have begun to transition. I must say it is very hard. I just brought books for my summer reading and now I have to find the best way to get rid of them that will generate a revenue to purchase new ones. I do want to say that I am really enjoying my new Kindle, but I’m going to miss my books. One thing I think I may do though, is…not go to a bookstore just to look around. Then I’ll have book fever…
I’ll be ok…I’ll just take it one book to e-book at at time. 🙂
